New Braided Rugs: This Isn’t Your Grandma’s House

Many people have memories of visiting a grandparent’s house that had a braided area rug.  They were common back in the day, and since they were made from scrap material and clothes that were no longer wearable, they didn’t necessarily have a color scheme or pattern.  They were simply practical.  They held up well and warmed your feet.

The benefits of braided rugs are the same as they were in their heyday.  These rugs are very durable, being made from so many tightly woven fibers.  They are heavy and will not slide around easily and edges won’t lift up to become tripping hazards.  They are also reversible, so if you have a last minute spill before company arrives, you can easily flip the rug and not worry about it.

The newest generation of braided rugs also has a few new tricks to entice you.  They are made from stain resistant materials, so you don’t need to worry too much about that spill you just had.  At one point, most braided rugs were round or oval.  Today you can choose just about any shape, including squares, rectangles, and runners.  There are a variety of color schemes and styles available to match your decor.  Solid colors, stripes, as well as patterns with leaves or flowers are all available.

When looking for the perfect area rug for your home, don’t discount braided rugs.  These rugs have so many positive attributes, and they will compliment almost any style, whether traditional or contemporary.  It is a choice that will look great for years to come.
