A rug is more than just something warm and soft under your feet. Often a rug is the one item that pulls the many facets of a room’s decor together. Choosing the right size, color and pattern is essential, but so is choosing the right shape. Some rooms may be oddly shaped or have inconvenient angles, making the usual rectangular rug difficult to fit. For some spaces, a round area rug is the perfect solution. Here are a few ideas on where and how to use round area rugs.
This is especially true if the room is small. A rectangular rug is not going to fit the space properly and will make the room seem even smaller. A round rug will soften the angles and create a cozy area that you can arrange furniture around creating an inviting spot for family and friends to spend time together.
If your dining area is part of a larger room, such as in the case of a combined dining/living room, or if the dining area adjoins the kitchen, you may want to establish its identity as a separate area. An easy way to set those boundaries is with an area rug. A round rug works best with a round dining table and keeps the dining area from becoming part of the long, rectangular living room. It’s a great way to keep floors from being scratched, too. It will also help keep wall-to-wall rugs clean and stain-free.
If you are lucky enough to have a large foyer or entryway, a round rug can add a bit of warmth and color to greet guests. Choose a rug that will take some wear and tear, will stand up to the traffic and one that is easily cleaned.
As an accent
Place a cozy round rug next to a bed or by a bathtub. Your feet will appreciate the warm reception of a soft rug instead of the cold floor. Choose vibrant colors or bold patterns to draw the eye and liven up the room. Other spots for accent rugs can be in an odd corner, under a small table or to protect a wall-to-wall rug in a high-traffic area.
