America’s Magnificent Carpet Awards is equivalent of Hollywood Oscar awards for the Area Rugs Industry and is sponsored by Architectural Digest magazine and hosted by both Architectural Digest and AmericasMart Atlanta.
The awards were presented to Karastan representatives at a ceremony held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Atlanta, GA.

Judges representing museum curators, designers and retailers chose the winning rugs in several categories based on design, construction, salability and value.

“Our design, development and manufacturing team has once again produced outstanding results,” says Anne Carley, Director of Marketing for Karastan rugs. “Most significant is the artistic use of color in both rugs. The meticulously placement of multiple hues gives textural depth to the intense, Prussian blue field of

Eastport. A mélange of colors also creates the striated underlay of French Quarter, which is topped with an ornamental design inspired by the hand-forged ironworks of New Orleans.”

What seem to extremely impress retailers visiting Karastan’s showroom is the handmade appearance and natural beauty of Karastan rugs. This year’s winning rugs are both woven of 100% premium New Zealand wool (worsted) and always hot sellers at arearugsclub.com.

can anyone tell me what worsted wool means? and I guess there must be something special about New Zealand wool, from the way they are proudly advertising it. can anyone tell me anything about New Zealand wool. also I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me what purpose a pad serves. I have no idea what they are meant for.

    Area Rugs Club:

    Hi Alice,

What makes a “worsted” wool is the preparation and processing of the wool. One important stage is the combing process which removes any short and brittle fibers from the wool. Worsted yarns have a long staple length (about 4 inches or longer). They are finer, smoother and even more durable. New Zealand is famous for producing some of the best worsted wools anywhere.

    The pads do all this:
    * Protect your floor as well as your rugs from heavy traffic
    * Make vacuuming much easier
    * Provide safety by preventing slide and slip
    * Make your area rugs feel more comfortable under foot and feel thicker, therefore giving you a richer step.
    * Your rugs can “breath”adn will enjoy a longer life when you use rug pads
    * Reduces puckering from furniture and prevent furniture legs damaging your rugs.

Hope this helps, and thank you for commenting :)

    Alice:

thanks ararugsclub, for replying to my questions! your answers were helpful. I have a silk rug in my living room. I have always experienced this problem with it, it always keeps sliding little by little over the floor. I have always thought this was a common unavoidable problem all rug users have to deal with. now i know there is such an easy solution. I am definitely going to buy pads…how many do you suggest I would need for my rug?

You are welcome Alice! Sorry, I missed your comment and didn’t reply sooner :(
You need only one pad for each rug and here is more about them: “Rug Pads“.

    all the best!
